Story

Thanks for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page.

I am not expecting to raise thousands, so set the target small to begin with. Each time I reach my target I shall raise it, but that will be down to you people who will be helping me. Oh, and just as an extra incentive, for each £100 you help me raise, I will run 100kms!

Donating through JustGiving is simple, fast and totally secure. Your details are safe with JustGiving - they'll never sell them on or send unwanted emails. Once you donate, they'll send your money directly to the charity. So it's the most efficient way to donate - saving time and cutting costs for the charity.

This week I completed a 20kms run, mostly around Saltram. When I say "20kms run" I mean 17kms running and 3 kms limping. At the 17kms mark I felt my left calf tighten. Tried to walk it off but attempting to run again just left me very sore. So finished off the run with a more leisurely walk. The 20kms this week took me to the 300kms target. That means for each £1 I was sponsored for during this challenge, I ran 1km.

Well this weekend was a quite a busy one. Visiting a couple of the local events at Royal William Yard and Mount Edgcumbe. Upon getting off the Cremyll Ferry after the Vintage Car Rally and Craft Fair at Mt Edgcumbe, I decided to run around the South West Coastal Path. Not my usual route but one I had done before, this time I was doing it in reverse. Sunday's run takes my total to 260kms completed and leaved 40kms still to go.

This week saw me hit my 250kms and now leaves me with only 50kms left to run. I admit I am not the world's fastest 10kms runner but I have had a few quick runs lately. (When I say quick, I mean quick for me!) Pretty sure Sir Mo would be able to run them in a lot quicker time than I can. Then again, he isn't 54! I am literally running 1km per £1 raised as my total is £300.

Couple of more runs to report on since my last update. Current total of kms run so far now stands at 240kms. Total kms left to run now stands at 60kms. Getting close to the finishing line and I am really looking forward to retiring this year's running shoes!

Yesterday, after the euphoria of my run around Burrator Reservoir I thought I would do another run around my usual place at Saltram. My heart wanted to do 20kms, my body said 10kms! We came to a compromise, I ran 10kms and walked 10kms. That means the current total run is 220kms and leaves 80kms to do. Still stuck on the £290. My aim is to have completed 300kms by the end of August and raised £300.

A lovely run twice around Burrator Reservoir yesterday gave me another 10kms to add to my collection. In total I have run 200kms since starting this challenge. Due to my own personal challenge being 300kms I am 2/3 of the way through to completing this challenge.

A few runs since the last update means I have now completed 180kms. This leaves 120kms still to go before the end of August and the end of this year's challenge. Thanks for all the support, both online, and offline.

A 10kms run on Saturday in the middle of our heatwave was probably not the wisest thing I could have done. However, I actually enjoyed it a lot. I rarely check my times or my running history but that did seem to faster than any of my previous runs. It also took me into the second half of my 300kms challenge.

Today's run, although back to a 10kms run, was quite significant. It took my total running to 150kms. That is the halfway point of my challenge. Thanks to everyone who has supported so far.

Run twelve in this current challenge saw me complete another 20kms! I amaze myself sometimes! That means the current running total is now 140kms. Whilst the current amount raised remains at £290. I felt better doing this run and as yet have no after effects on the scale of Wednesday's!

Today I started on the 100kms - 200kms section of the challenge. The previous 10 runs have all been 10kms. This evening I just kept running after the first 10kms and ended up completing 20kms. I also ended up with cramp so had to slow down a bit. Anyway, I shall attempt another run at the weekend. Maybe the quicker I get to the 200kms, someone might just add that elusive £10 to get me through the £300 barrier! Not sure how much of a hint you all need.

Had a lovely week's rest after completing my first 100kms. Tomorrow though I am hitting the road again as I start the countdown to 200kms. Thanks for the support so far. Both online and offline supporters have been amazing so far. Still looking for that £10 to take me over the £300 line! Been stuck on £290 for a few weeks now! Just saying.

Today I completed my 10th 10kms run. Officially I have completed the challenge. Am I stopping now? NO! I am going on and aiming at 200kms. Thanks for all the support so far.

This week I managed to complete runs 8 and 9 of my challenge. This now takes me over the 90kms run in total. As I type this, I have collected £35 in cash from offline sponsors and that takes me just short of £300 in total raised in sponsorship. Run 8 took me around Royal William Yard and Plymouth Hoe. Run 9 was a lovely 10kms run around Lanhydrock in Cornwall. Definitely need to go back there in the future.

Today saw me chalk off my 70th Km. A lovely run around Saltram again. Changed route slightly on way there. When I did this challenge last year I was definitely not a runner. Managing 2kms, 5kms and a couple of 10kms runs was my limit....That said, I did manage to complete a couple of runs in the heat of the Dominican Republic. This year however, I am determined to run 10kms each time. Hate to admit it, but I am slowly becoming a runner! Now just £45 short of £300!

Had an email today and almost passed out! Email from Alzheimer's Research UK informed me that my donations had reached £453.00 For a short time I was panicking in the thought that I had now got to run even more.....Then when I checked I noticed that the total included the money raised from the collections we had at Dad's Funeral service. All is calm again, thank goodness.

Thanks to my wife Diane Oliver, I am now very close to the £300. That means even closer to having to run 300kms........Well she is nurse, so she will know how to deal with the aching legs and blisters, and cramps, and........! Pretty sure she just wants to see me suffer!

NICK OLIVER

6th May 2018
Thanks to some more offline sponsors I have now reached £235. That means I have had to make the decision to increase my target to £300! This has a knock on effect......As a result of my target now set at £300, my running target is now set at 300kms! Good job I just invested in some new running shoes then!

So it's Bank Holiday weekend and so far it's been pretty warm! That can only mean it's time for another 10kms run. Beautiful day with a little breeze to help me along the way. Glad to say that is 60kms now completed.

25th April 2018
Run five today meant I went through the 50kms baŕrier. Now on to the 100kms. Ordinarily I would be halfway through.....but because the sponsor money has just reached £200, I have another 150kms left to run. Actually enjoyed the run today and that includes the downpour during it.

NICK OLIVER

24th April 2018
Morning 10kms run planned for Wednesday will take me through the 50kms. If I am reliably informed, the offline sponsorship total tomorrow will take me through the £200 target so looks like I may have to raise it to £300 by the end of the day. That means the run is extended to 300kms! Thanks to everyone supporting me in this worthwhile cause.

NICK OLIVER

23rd April 2018
Thank you to Margaret and Bob for your kind sponsorship. Takes the total to £150 now! Almost reached the next milestone.

NICK OLIVER

22nd April 2018
£120 in the sponsor pot and after another 10kms run today, the total is 40kms in distance covered. Thanks to all who have supported on and offline so far.

20th April 2018
Thanks to some lovely people at the local MIU who have been adding their names to a sponsor form, I have now reached my first £100. I have a feeling that I shall be running more than 100kms again this year!

NICK OLIVER

18th April 2018
Another 10kms run around the beautiful scenery of Saltram. Takes my running total to 30kms and leaves 70kms to do. A number of offline sponsors have taken my total raised so far to £75. Getting there!

NICK OLIVER

15th April 2018
Thanks to some good people, I am almost halfway to the first £100 raised and that means I am well on the way to reaching the initial target. Another run tomorrow will keep my running total on target too!

NICK OLIVER

13th April 2018
2 runs down. 20 kms chalked pff. First £25 donated. Safe to say RDD2018 Campaign is on the road now. 80kms to go and £75 to reach the £100 target.

Not sure what the app was doing yesterday but it kept stopping during my run. Finally got the full breakdown on my first run and it was 10kms in 1hour and 20 mins. That is approximately 1 km per 8 minutes. http://www.mapmywalk.com/workout/2813144245
